1997 Lincoln Towncar (Automatic Transmission) is a car with problems. The car is hard to drive. Here are the symptoms: 1. When you start the car initially, and pump the accelerator slowly, it takes about 10 seconds for the car to move forward. 2. When the red light turns to a green traffic light, and you hit the accelerator, it surges forward too fast, instead of steadily moving forward slowly. While you are driving, the vehicle slows down, then speeds up and then alternates between the two (slow, then fast repeatedly). One mechanic looked at it and said that it is a clutch problem.
