I need a one-person video producer/director/filmer/editor, a jack of all video trades for pretty simple video productions. There is pay, but it's low. Below, in parts: (1) What I am trying to produce, (2) Who you likely are in life-stage and experience level, (3) fees, and (4) what to send me. YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST BE GEOGRAPHICALLY LOCAL TO THE DC AREA, both for shooting video and for meetings. NO EXCEPTIONS. (1) I am a working professional in the DC area, both a part-time office worker and an entrepreneur. I am starting a tech business (software). I am seeking to produce multiple short videos, for the business, targeted mainly at potential inventors and also at corporations I am team with. I do NOT have remotely the budget for the kind of high-end, splashy videos I would like to produce. So these will be mainly: (a) A talking head (my head doing the talking); (b) simple dramatizations of the tech; (c) still shots, like screen shots, edited together with a narrative. Something like simple talks and PowerPoints, edited into video. Basically, these will be SIMPLE, SIMPLE videos. If you are accustomed to fancier productions, don't apply, you are more than I need and more than I can afford. But they still need to be well lit, well filmed, neatly edited. Simple, but still polished. These are more like informational videos than marketing videos, but with a hint of marketing polish. But mainly it's substance, not trying to grab the viewer's emotions. The videos will be videoed in my home office, or possibly a few scenes immediately outdoors or at accessible locations very close to my home office. Some videos may provided by me of screen captures of the software. You need to be able to shoot the videos with suitable lighting, and edit the video, including adding some stock background music, titles, etc. All footage, all videos, anything I may ask you to script -- all this to be done as work-for-hire, and all raw product and work product will remain the intellectual property of my company. (2) You are an individual man or woman, likely in your twenties, possibly even eighteen or nineteen. Possibly a college student, otherwise you are probably recently out of college and trying to build a portfolio in the video field. You have all your own equipment -- a camera (something more than a cell phone!), portable lighting, portable green screen, basic sound equipment. You have your own video editing software. No age limit, however. If you are older and making a career transition that is fine. But I still need to see some evidence of prior life/work experience. You have to be local to the DC area, and have your own transport. (My home office is in lower Montgomery County.) I'd need to have references for you, and see some kind of prior video work. You are solo, because I can't afford a two-person team (more about money immediately below). So... mainly, this is short videos for the start-up. But I may want some other projects done as well, such as other business videos (related to my day-job business services), small personal projects -- for example, recording a video version of my medical power of attorney or living will, possibly some personal life narratives. These can be discussed. (3) Fees. As indicated above, low. You can make some money, but this is largely building experience for you. We can negotiate, but a proposed fee is $20 per hour for the on-site work, plus a fixed flat fee -- and a modest one at that -- for the video editing, including revisions to my reasonable satisfaction. (4) I am older, and old-school. I also need to know you can follow instructions. So if you are interested, follow these instructions. Send an old-style resume in pdf format. It should describe your experience and related education in video or just whatever educational background you have. Links to online resumes will not suffice. You may also, however, send links to any videos you've placed online. From past experience (hiring programmers and others), I am likely to get many resumes. I am a one man shop myself, the startup is pre-revenue, no outside funding. So I can't reply to all resumes, and it may take a few weeks before I get back to anyone. If/when I reply, it will likely be via the CL remailer. I am a stealth startup (but legally incorporated), and will not provide the company name initially.
